This is my favorite spring willow, I'm going to take some spring cutting and try to get one going in my garden. It has a sweet scent and a lovely early yellow color.

and you can steep the bark if you have a headache!? lol... I'm familiar with the willows of a lesser beauty, Gt. their seed forms a white mat and the seeds will germinate in any standing water. This looks like the pussywillow? early spring days in childhood...everyone brought pussywillows and pollywogs to school!

There are many species which flower like this here Lori but few that make that cotton seed. The one I'm after does not. This flower is much smaller. If it does turn out to be diamond willow I'll be spreading a much desired species as the wood is often collected for arts and crafts for it distinctive markings. I think it should go to root quite easily. We used to root weeping willow in a bucket of water in about a month. Steep the bark for any ache or pain. :-)
I love the nostalgia of the pussy willows as well. It does make me think of childhood.
