Maianthemum racemosum - 2010 (Maianthemum racemosum)

This used to be known as smilacena racemosum. Could easily be mistaken for Solomon's Seal until it flowers. Up to three feet tall for moist soil in dappled shade, sheltered from cold winds

I like this... .would it grow in my heavy clay soil Andrew?

I could use this at the top of my garden, something to consider.

Janette - it really needs a soil full of humus. If you were to improve the clay with lots of garden compost and mulch it each year with more of the same, it would suit it quite well. You'd need to work on the clay really to get it to thrive

There are large clumps of this in the woodland garden at Kew; It's a lovely plant.
