You have purchased a very healthy looking Chamaerops humilis. It's a very hardy palm for you garden.

You did well to get it for a tenner ours was half that size and over £14. Will you put it in the garden?

Oh yes i have several round the garden but i do wrap them up for the first 4-5 years to get them used to the winter,and to make sure there strong enough
but as they come from china there used to the cold ..

It is Chamaerops humilis - Mediterranean fan palm...correct? It looks like one...as I can see the spines along the petioles. Mediterranean fan palm is native to Southern Europe and Northern Africa.

Were you thinking it was maybe Trachycarpus fortunei - Chinese Windmill Palm which is native to China?

Delonix is it a Cham humilis, because ours is silver, will post a picture tomorrow for you to have a look please, Mushy's looks more like our trachy fortunei,do they change colour as they get larger?

For some reason i got it into my head that Chamaerops humilis came from china
but being a Mediterranean fan palm that is a few miles from home ..:o))

Chamaerops humilis is considered a "variable species"...which mean every plant can take on different characteristics. Some grown in shade may be greener than ones grown in very hot sun, which have a glaucous look. In California, there's literally millions of these palms growing everywhere. Many can be small and almost trunk-less and others can have a trunk to almost 30 feet / 10 meters tall.
