Beautiful - I have one just like this. They are surprisingly tough. I see you also have a Silybum....i just like the name lol ;-)

Yes, I grew the thistles from seed and have just popped them in anywhere I have space. Have a really small garden, but they look quite good I think. Like to grow odd things (lots of the random seedlings of other things I chucked in, behind it)!
The peony flowers are about twice as big now, got carried away and took this pic early :)

They are lovely plants. I planted a couple more last year, but I don't know how long they will take to establish....
The Silybum is a facinating plant, but it's best not to allow them to self seed, as they can become a problem and are not easy to pull out for obvious reasons - ouch!
