heron prints

Oh no, this last winter I came across these prints in the snow. HERON ALERT. So far I haven't lost any fish, but I'm keeping a look out. I'll have to train my cats to scare them, but I hope they don't catch one! At least it won't fit through the cat flap if they do get one. On a serious note what are the best tried and tested Heron defences?
My neighbour lost their fish a few years back,the heron came every morning until the pond was empty, I keep mine covered as I have 4 cats who would love a fishing session.....
