It certainly is doing very well....

Great. I too have one of these and it is also flowering very well. Must like the weather we have had.

2 Jun, 2010

It didn't like the winter, but the recent sun suits it really well....

I believe that the winter did mine a lot o goo as it killed off many of the weaker shoots. Natural pruning!

I have yet to see this in bloom in London: You have a good plant there Spritz.

keep looking at them wth a view to buying not sure were to put one

Yes, Rbt, it's in a good position against a wasll facing west - it thrives there

Cristina, bear in mind that it needs protection - so against a wall or fence facing wst ir south west seems to be best. I hope you can find the right position...it is a beautful plant.

is it a climer

4 Jun, 2010

More of a 'scrambler', Cristina - you have to tie it on to wires or a trellis.

Mine is like this this year , huge and growing all over the summer house ......

Isn't it strange - something has agreed with them this year!

Fabulous. I'm intrigued as to why this doesn't grow in London RbtKew......it grows well here in Scotland.

5 Jun, 2010

???

5 Jun, 2010

Oh, reading it again, did Rbtkew mean it's not yet in flower because it's too early? I thought he meant it didn't grow there! lol! Sorreeeeeee!! :))

6 Jun, 2010

I suspect so - unless not many people grow it???? I'd have thought they would, though. London definitely has its own micro-climate.

6 Jun, 2010

Yes, I took him too literally! bloomin daft I am!! ;)

Give over - Course you're not! ;-)

6 Jun, 2010

:)) thanks B! ...but yes, sometimes....but then we all have our moments eh? ;)

6 Jun, 2010

Oh yes....I certainly do! :-(((

I just planted one of those on Monday. Just hope it gets as healthy as yours - they are quite vigorous arent they ?

11 Jun, 2010

Yes, if they like the place where you've put them. I think these are hardier than S. laxum - that really suffered last winter and I had to cut out half the stems.

Good luck with yours, Paul - once it gets going, it flowers for ages! :-)

I had pored over the 'Flowering shrub expert' book looking for ideas and discounted Solanum as a possibility - until I saw it at Hidcote Manor a few weeks ago, then I just had to get one. Sometimes the books just dont do things justice.

12 Jun, 2010

True. You sometimes need to see a plant or shrub 'in the flesh' to see the real colour, and as with this, 'en masse'. Hidcote, eh? One of my favourite gardens, along with Sissinghurst. :-)))
