My new Strawberry Pot

Hubby gave me this strawberry pot as part of my birthday present in July but as it was too late for planting strawberries, it sat in the shed until this year when I was able to do something about it. Unfortunately, and I didn't think of this until I was planting it up, the little cups are very shallow and the soil pours out when watering so I had to do some shoring up with broken pots to keep it in. It seems to have done the trick and they're growing away quite nicely. I'll post another photo as they develop but I'm very happy with them just now. It's my first go with strawberries!

I'm just wondering, though, if the plants are new, whether you shouldn't cut off those runners to get better development of the main plants?
