I thought that was a group of trees until I looked at it again properly - that is large!

This is one of the smaller Australian Banyans in the Balboa Park...the largest one located next to the Natural History Museum is the second largest known in the state.

They make great shade trees during the hot weather of summer.

I've read F. macrophylla can grow to 200 feet/ 61 meters tall in native habitat. The tallest one known in San Diego is in Balboa Park in front of the Natural History Museum. It's 85 feet/ 26 meters tall and 145 feet/ 44 meters wide. It was planted in 1914 and is celebrating its estimated 100 year old birthday this year.
