New raised border

New raised border

The trouble with modern estates is the poor soil; go down 3 or 4 inches & all there is is building rubble. A quick solution are raised borders.
I took out about 5 or 6 inches , built the border, & filled with top soil/horse manure mix & replanted.
I've used what my local timber merchant calls "gravel board" which is ideal. It's pressure treated and best of all, costs just 80 pence a metre!
It was built around the existing Campanula and Penstemon, with the rest of the planting coming from pot specimens or new purchases.

I did think about lifting them, but I'm quite precious about the Penstemon and didn't want to risk it. I'm figuring that the slight hollow will naturally fill in a bit anyway.
