Thanks .. my camera does have a problem with blues and mauve's and purples , I can't get it right , it should be darker than this .! I will have to compare it with Gladys Carole ... this one always has masses of flowers which surprises me as it's half tucked behind a big shrub .....

My ' President ' also looks blue in print but is a gorgeous mauve, and since the gravel has been put over the roots instead of bare soil it has flowered so much better ! Fifteen on it this morning. : o ) )

LOL... Amy! I just realized that I feel that way about most of the plants in my garden... I"m just obsessed with plants, and fish, and birds, and bees and dogs and cats and ....lol.. my garden is a moderate size...but if I ever got anything bigger...what fun I would have! I think I'd annex a whole greenhouse and grow vines.... all specie and variety...especially clems!

What a good idea Amy, having arches, I haven't got one :-( Do you have them over paths? You must put a photo up of your 12 feet arch, that sounds wonderful.
So when you grow them up trees - how far do you grow them away from the base? Just thinking of the roots - you have so many good ideas :-)

I have 4 arches Dawn over pathways ... I put roses, honeysuckle and Clematis up them , I think the clematis likes to hold on to the rose stems ... the 12 ft arch is wrought iron and has replaced a wooden one that had rotted off at the bottom , we put it where it is to cover and hide the side of the Arcon , it's amazing storage but a bit of an eye sore it's almost covered with shrubs and trees at the front but because the wooden arch had to come down we will have to wait for the new plants to grow before it's covered at the side .. I will put a photo on when the roses and clematis have grown a bit and it looks nicer .... when I put a Clematis to grow up a tree I put them about 6" away from the trunk and lean it in towards the tree I put a cane or something like that leading to the tree for the plant to grip and start it's journey upwards ... ..

Oh Amy, I'll look forward to seeing your 12 foot arch - can you imagine, it will look stunning. I must try your idea, I would have been worried that the roses, clematis and honeysuckle would crowd each other, but now I know they won't and I suppose they get the sun all around them as opposed to climbing up a fence.
Your Arcon is too valuable to lose Amy, my old brick garage isnt particularly pretty and its in totally the wrong place but boy does it hold some stuff.
Thanks for the advice on planting clematis to grow up a tree - I could try this in so many places. I appreciate your help Amy :-)
