The first flower opens on our huge pot of asiatic lillies. My husband is great at tracking down and despatching the pesky lily beetle, which then means we get a terrific display from our lillies - now in a 2ft wide terracotta pot. It really is worth keeping them under cover till almost flowering as they get a rain-borne problem else.

We just plant them in a mix of general purpose compost and sterilised loam - about 50:50. But we do feed them lots!!! Nitrogen feed in april as they start to grow, then high flower feed until they've stopped flowering.

Forgot to say - we plant them in pots as it's easier to protect them from rain-borne fungal disease - when they finish we can move them and replace with something else that's blooming!

Are they prone to that then ?

Yes - it's a rain-borne fungal disease that gives them unsightly spots on the leaves.

What a gorgeous colour, what kind of soil do you need to grow these, Hoya ?
