I have this in my front garden and it's huge! I'm going to have to hack it right down - if it doesn't survive I have a baby to replace it, but not in the front garden this time!

Ah ,well this is growing well Wagger, but it's in a pot and that's so I can put it in the greenhouse over winter....or leave it in the porch!

I never even realised it was on the tender side, Karen. It's a very cold spot here but it's quite sheltered where it's growing.

I rescued this one from Dobbies sale rail in February 2009. It was completely bare of leaves and looked sad, but I could somehow tell it was still alive. Remember I am quite far North....opposite Norway in fact! I put it in the conservatory to begin with and soon it sprouted new shoots. Last summer I had no flowers at all, so I am really chuffed to see how well it is doing now. does yours keep it's leaves over the winter outdoors Wagger?

Yes, it does, Karen. Mine's flowering at the moment, too.

Thanks. I'm going to keep it in the porch I think. It's been there since about March to no ill effect, so we'll see how it does. It doesn't get too cold in there because the front of house faces south east and is sheltered from the wind of course, being the porch! Should be ok I think/hope! :)

I'm sure it will be - until it gets too big! Mine's about eight foot high at the moment - and almost as wide.

Ever tried pruning it? Mine will have to be pruned if it's going to live in the porch or we won't be able to get in the front door! :)

I suppose being in a pot will keep it restricted.....

I've pruned it very hard in the past, Karen - it just grows faster.

LOL!

I'm going to cut it right down to about a foot shortly - if it does kill it I've got a cutting growing strongly but I don't think it will, it seems to resprout readily.

Phew, good news!!
