So I got as far as I expected but not as far as I had hoped. Filled all the yard waste bins so have to wait until they are picked up before I can do more.

It's looking very nice. We don't have problem with waste, we pile up weed waste and let it decompose, out of sight, all good waste goes to compost, and the rest we can burn on a bonfire at certain times. Are you not allowed to have bonfires?

I'm wondering if you will have a problem of soil washing down on to the path if it rains heavily. Low ground cover (such as periwinkle) would keep down weeds and prevent this. Just a thought

Compost bins are a good idea - I'm a bit obsessive about mine - nothing 'organic' gets thrown away - all gets composted and most ends up on the veggie patch and the rest goes on the borders. Thick woody stuff goes to the tip or gets burnt and then the ash goes on the veggie patch.

Sorry - good work, by the way!!

Sod doesn't compost well or at all with my heavy clay soil. I am on an ordinary city lot so there is no room to put anything out of sight. I have a good compost system for my regular food/yard waste and the city of Seattle will take it and use it in the super composting facility they have. As to the water run-off, I have been planting before I remove the grass so the roots can be established and will hold the bank. Before the end of summer I hope to put in a small retaining wall and meanwhile I will be planting, planting, planting. Fortunately, despite Seattle's reputation for rain it is rarely heavy.

GREAT job Sarah. The red really pops againts your blue house. Waiting for waist bins to be picked up before you can do more sounds very familiar. I have eight 30 gallon trash cans and it's never enough.
