Looks like he's 'marking it' with the gland along the side of his face .... perhaps another cat's done it and he's following on from it.

I put the little sticks in to help protect the lupin plant because he was scratching at it....then he started this...So he is the first cat there lol...:>)

Ah ! He's making sure it's 'his' scent there then !!!!!
Staking his territory perhaps ;-)

He is marking his territory alright Louise....seems to have taken over the whole house.....:>)
