yes...that's the prime directive, (for those of Startrek generations)...or the first tenet of Hypocrates..."do no harm" and for every "good" there is always a "caution". Even our "usual" medications and treatments have their origins in the herb garden.
I had an aged auntie who claimed that comfrey could cure anything...even cancer. Imagine .... from what I can understand of the science...comfrey can be carcinogenic...it's main benefit when taken being a vitamin source. perhaps just another green vegetable!? lol. guess the best advice is from another Greek.... "all things...in moderation"
I suppose most herbalists are self medicators...present day medicine frowns on that. If I have a choice...I prefer the most "natural" or the cure closest to the natural source. Im sure we all would, right? perhaps you could boil willow bark next time you have a headache, because in low doses it's even good for your heart!...
Wellll.... : - )) !!

I love these guys! I do chew a leaf for headache relief & it works well for me, although I did read a caution that overuse could lead to mouth cancer, herbal remedies being just as likely to have downsides as our usual ones.
