You should see the pond now (in my photos a year on, the growth is massive. Hubby's boss asked me if I wanted him to dig me a bigger pond but they can be so difficult to control weeds etc with or without electrics. I wouldn't mind a series of small preformed ponds with bridges but this is only a cottage tide to my husbands job, If it were mine.....................................!!!!!!

Hi Lulu I might just do that
I know well the desire to get more water into your garden. I long to have a garden with the room for a pond inside a (yes wait for it...triple glazed greenhouse) I'd love to be able to grow my Colocasias and Alocaias to their true potential. the cannas thankfully will do that outside along with Thalia dealbata - yet even that (coming from Florida naturally) found it a real struggle to make it through last winter so growth accordingly late and growth restricted. I also have Thalia geniculata after searching for it for many years, got it from an ebay contact in Malaysia. That will be brought inside to get growing over the autumn and winter as it's not as hardy as its cousin and such why my last one died a few years back even being submerged under nearly a foot of water cover.
Trust me as for weeds in ponds fear not - get the right plants to get a balanced pond and the weeds won't get a look in. Colocasias are ideal in this case as they are such hungry plants they take all the nitrate out of the water to grow before the other candidates get a look in.
Happy growing come what may :-)
