I adore these and mine are fine ...... Alice where are yours sited ? And yours Grindle ?
They 'do' seem to like the poorer soils - like it is here !!!
I have clumps in all aspects except due north so i think it's more drainage than orientation, mostly.

I kept mine in their pots in the greenhouse over winter as they were too small to plant out. They were only bedded out about 3 weeks ago (the ones I had left) I lost the white ones, the deep pink ones are struggling and the pink one is doing a little better. They are in the most sheltered spot in the garden, facing south....in the front of the lily bed. It will be interesting to see how they do, especially as that border is a bit more fertile than some of the others ( I note what you say about poorer soils Louise..) we shall see...

mine were in a free draining sheltered spot, so according to 'the book' they should have been fine, they obviously didn't read well LOL
