This blue/purple flowering shrub is at Quail Botanical Gardens on July 6, 2010.

Definitely not Mahonia. It probably has its origins in tropical Asia...as this part of the garden in mostly tropical southeast Asian plants.

I was able to find a M. fremontii.. It's yellow...though. it was the arrangement of the leaves that made me instantly think of Mahonia...there are plenty of data on S.E. Asian Mahonia. Maybe it's a rescued endangered specie.

This shrub isn't suppose to have yellow leaves...they're chlorotic. I think it needs a good dose of fertilizer. : > )
Next time I go Quail Botanical Gardens...I'll have to ask someone what this vining shrub is.
