Karen Sue this is the picture I was waiting for, think I am right it is Alstromeria - see what you think. Nice when you get freebies from others who don't want them any more.

I'm just looking again at its leaves .... they're a lot thinner and narrower than the types i have, which are several times wider than that and they're shiny and appear to twwist ever so slightly.
I'm no expert on them, just a fan, so perhaps yours are a slightly different species to the ones i have here.

Oh yes, they do have thin leaves don't they.....interesting.......very sunny flowers!

I believe they can be invasive, but you have plenty of room....and of course they make brilliant cut flowers too! Sarah Raven has some really nice ones on her website. I got a purple one from her and it's very pretty.

I have been on a website to try and find some more today, but they are all wishy washy colours and I like strong colours, suppose I was very lucky to be given this one, it is such a vibrant colour.
