Scarecrow's Field, 24/7/07

The sweetcorn has been among the most successful plants this year. I have never seen it before in reality, but I love this plant for its architectural properties alone, never mind the fact that the female flowers and the silks are forming, with tangible corn cobs forming. I knew sweetcorn needed plenty of water (which I myself have only provided maybe 4 times, along with 2 rounds of feed (fish, blood and bone), but I thought it also needed plenty of sun and warmth. Anyway, here's to an Indian Summer and corn straight from plant to barbie!

What a quirky garden!! Certainly different but not for me , it proves the individuality of gardening !!

I love your garden - wouldn't it be something if playschemes or nursery schools could do something similar

Y4es, it really would be a lovely learning experience but, unfortunately, vandalism in areas such as school grounds (especially during holiday periods) is a major consideration - and deterrent -for many schools planning outdoor projects.

A very inspiring way of getting kids interested in how food and other plants grow and the processes involved!
