This is our largest Fritillary and is a BIG butterfly, looking for all the world like an escapee from some tropical butterfly house. The larvae feed on violets, and right now masses of adults of come down to feed in the morning - Bramble flowers are the favourite - before spending the rest of the day feeding on aphid honeydew high in the woodland canopy.
