The Gardens were created in the early 1820s, on the site of a loch, which was drained earlier. It separates Edinburgh Castle and Old Town from the Georgian "New Town", which has Princes St as its southern boundary. The draining of the loch and creation of the gardens made it easier to construct the main east coast railway line and Waverley station in the 1840s. This park has always been popular and a convenient meeting point. Great statues, bedding schemes, etc. Site for the main New year celebrations. Gosh, I feel a "park" blog coming on, lol! ;-)
