Thank you Whistonlass. Dave carved that in his early days of carving and didn't know then that wood needs to be seasoned for a couple of years before carving. So the wood dried out and there was a split down the face so I suggested he filled it in and painted it to look like war paint. It seems to have worked.

Oh yes, it's very effective and had you not mentioned it I'd never have known it was a "cover up" job :) So Dave is still carving then? Will you be putting up any more photos of his work? He's got a wonderful talent!

Like the others I did not realise the paint was not part of the original wood. He is very skilful.

Our old plum tree developed brown fruits and we were told to cut it down so DH carved this mohican out of it so we still have our old plum tree.
