Oh I forgot I also moved the astilbe in there! I was trying to plant with the pond in mind! Yes, very pleased with it B and looking forward to the cornus growing up and flowering! Lets not have another winter like last year though!!

Don't even 'think' it! :-(((( Which Astilbe is it? Mine had buds but they shrivelled up before they could flower - even in the shady area. :-((( The only one that's OK is on the stream bank.

It's Arendsii Fanal B. I'm not a fan of Astilbes, but I like the colour of this one, and it catches the colour of the Acer there too!

That's the one on the bank - a lovely red - doing well down there.

Thanks Ann, I decided to make this bit a shade 'warmer' than all my pink and blues.

i love to see the dark rich leaves on plants to break up the green to karen, sets things off ;o))

Yes, good point. if you took those away it would be bland!
31 Jul, 2010
there are so many darker leaves available now karen, i really like them to
31 Jul, 2010
Yes, I sometimes wonder though because they are 'dark' if they make the garden look dingy...I think if you have too many....but you're right. They add something. I just moved my achillea terracotta right beside my dark leaved physocarpus and wow...beautiful contrast! On the other hand, in my last garden I planted about half of the shrubs in the front with dark leaves and I thought it was too much. I don't have nearly as many here, but I'm glad I have some!

yes think your right better to not have to many, i would like a few darker leaves in my garden,im off now karen,, soo tired and hard to type lay flat out on sofa lol,, nite x
