Clematis Viorna is deciduous as indeed are many clematis with some exceptions like for example Clematis Armandii. I love the delicate form of this one ! Cut it to within 12" of ground in spring . Looks dead like most deciduous Clematis do after a hard winter but soon springs back into life during the growing season ! Slugs love the tender emerging shoots so protect them well !
