Bauhinia x blakeana - Hong Kong Orchid Tree's Fragrant Flowers blooming at the wrong time of year

A very rare sight for this time of the year. They're blooming all around San Diego, CA. now. Their normal bloom period is in mid-Winter. Its blooming is probably due to the coolest July recorded in 100 years in San Diego. Photo taken August 1, 2010.

I sure they will. Although, it's so strange seeing them bloom this time of year. I actually thought I was looking at a different species of Bauhinia...because so many of the Hong Kong Orchid street trees are all in full bloom.

Thanks! Yes, they're my favorite Orchid tree because they are a sterile hybrid (they don't develop the ugly long seed-pods like other species)

Thanks! This is my favorite Orchids tree. It has the largest and most fragrant flowers of any Bauhinia.
