I have pink lady apple tree in rememberence for our belated family dog .When do i know when to pick the apples?Regards mark

I don't have an apple tree now, but as a youngster, I used to pick from my parents' apple trees.
They were ready for picking, when the apple came away from the branch in my hand, as I held the apple, and tilted the apple gently ... if you know what I mean !
If you need to pull on it, it probably isn't ready to be picked ...
