I just took this picture of my Pieris, as you will see its already turning red, to me its far to early as it normally changes colour in spring, I ask Spritz about her one and she said its still green, anyone else got one that is changing colour in August.

I had to re-site mine in April, it's thriving in new spot and is very green, not a sign of red so far !

I repotted mine a couple of months ago, and it did then produce some red, but has now gone green again. Mine is not variegated like yours, it looks beautiful.

Mine was going pink in mid-late July ... I've seen quite a few like it on my travels. To be honest I think it is simply because of that late hard frost we had a round here on May 5th (Oooh I remember it well) frying off the early growth. They're such slow growing shrubs - it's probably just taken a few months for the plants to summon up the the strength to have another go at laying down some new growth.

Hi Yorkshire. Nice photo...
My recent GoY pic called "Simply Red", shows my Pieris turning red and matching the red of the Lobelia alongside...
My Pieris is Forest Flame and it has had no special treatment ...
... but I think the explanation is that any new growth on the Pieris comes through a red colour ... and my Pieris is having a growth spurt due to rain after two very dry months...

The new growth thing is correct. I used to grow hundreds of Pieris when I was a full time plant nurseryman. I would also buy large numbers in very cheaply from the local plant auctions when they were all green. I'd give them a light prune and roughly 6 weeks later I could sell them with their beautiful red foliage on show.
PS I'm also from Yorkshire but moved to near the Kings lynn area in 1983. I still think of Yorkshire as home. My favourite areas are aroud Grassington and my parents came from the Skipton area. I also love North Yorkshire. I lived near Northallerton for 4 years many years ago.
