Silphium perfoliatum

I planted three of these several years ago and until this year they really struggled. I lost one because I accidentally covered it with a truckload of rocks, but the other two came up this year and finally bloomed. They are in an area that had been planted with annuals but has been neglected by me and is now full of goldenrod. I plan to clear this spot next year and put in more tall prairie plants.
