This one is gorgeous! how I wish the slugs hadn't destroyed mine!

I don't seem to have slugs on the clematis. I have over thirty. The hostas too are good until autumn when the odd one gets chewed. My problem is with strawberries, slugs and recently, snails.
Such a pity yours was destroyed.

It is clementine! but not too worry! I've moved to a new garden now, and will soon be buying a whole new collection of clems! :) my favourites are the new 'boulevard' collection, that grow to only a metre or so and flower all summer. They are all superb, especially fleuri, which is one of my favourite clematis. Niobe is probably my all time favourite, and I'll be getting one of those as soon as I can, to get it settled in before the spring! in my previous garden I was getting on for a hundred at one point! but that was ridiculous. I couldn't look after them all.

Cottagekarer, I haven't heard of the 'boulevard' collection of clematis. I must look it up. My husband loves Niobe, he loves red. I love blue. Perle d'Azure is my favourite. I planted Betty Corning a couple of years ago by the gate of my first secret garden and it suits well there, growing into the grape which is over the arbour.
How wonderful to have a new garden to plan. Every year I move some things around and buy more bulbs so I have a new picture in the spring.
I moved Alba Luxuriens close to my front door and planted 25 daffodils around it, now I await spring to see the picture.

if you like blue you'll have plenty to choose from that's for sure! Blue angel is a stunner. it grows big and is extremely floriferous. pale blue medium size single flowers with frilly edges. love it! Ascotiensis is similar but with deeper blue flowers, and romantika is another favourite blue of mine. I used to have a gorgeous blue macropetala, which was a beauty in spring, but it was planted in the wrong place, got too big and had to go. lesson learned! Enjoy spring when it comes...that planting sounds wonderful!

I had about three huge macropetalas, Maidwell Hall. They grew too large and I took two out. The remaining one is over the arch from first secret garden into second. It was over one foot deep so I got carried away with the pruners this summer (stupid time I know) and somehow it was reduced to one foot high. I didn't kill it but it will take a while to look good again. Reason was, it collected a lot of snow on that 'fence' and one post was rotting.
Thanks for the names. I shall look them up. I have been looking for Prince Charles but can't find it.

They are gorgeous those macros! My arch arrived today! Wonder if I can persuade OH to get it assembled and erected tomorrow...he is off in the morning!

Also...Kiri the Kanawa...but it's another one my slugs got at. Lovely fully double blue.
