Clematis..23rd Aug '10

Ah, that's a lovely colour...now this is the colour I thought my Honore would be, but it's much much darker. This would look superb in my Forest Pansy tree! No name though?

No name Karen...Its growing through Multiblue...It was given to me by a friend about 5 years ago.....Perhaps i could layer it...and you could have the cutting.....:>)

I found a lovely pink one yesterday and thought..that would do nicely for that cercis 'forest pansy'. I don't think it's the same as yours, but it's a group 3 and it's called John Howells. Can't wait to see how it does next year, and it should go well with Honore too! Only thing is now I need a shoehorn to get it in, as there are now four clems in that area; a florida sieboldii, Mary Rose, Honore and John Howells!! I must be stark raving mad!!

Karen/susan....I've just been looking at images of your Cercis forest pansy....It is such a beautiful shrub/tree....You're lucky to have space to grow it....I know its not a big plant, but still too big for the space i have, which is none lol....The clematis which looks most like mine is 'earnest markhem

aha! Ernest is one I don't have either. I don't think I'd better plant any more around that Forest Pansy though eh? lol! The only problem with the Forest Pansy is it is extremely brittle and if we get a strong wind I almost always lose a branch or a twig! It's very frustrating, and I have to keep tying it to the fence in the hope of giving a little support! Oh, and there is one other drawback to it...it doesn't come into leaf until June,, and every year I think I've lost it!

Its fairly hardy then Karen?.....I like it very much....I layered the ''ernest markham'' (we'll call it that for now)....So i'll let u know that goes......:>)

Well, yes, it seems to be, I mean it made it through the last winter. I'd say it's hardy, but it would 'prefer' to be somewhere a bit warmer, and then it might flower a bit more! We live only one mile from the beach though, so we don't get too many hard frosts compared to inland situations. Are you in a cool spot there motty? Thanks, I hope the clematis roots!

Not very cool here.....My back garden is very sunny and sheltered..though after last winter im nearly afraid to leave anything to chance....

Yes, I know what you mean! Lets hope for one of our usual mild winters this year eh? lol...then we'll be complaining that we don't ever see the winter sun! Last winter we had so much light, especially during the snowy spells! There's always a good side I guess!
