Penstemmon's are one of my favourite plants. In the south of the UK they are frost hardy and they flower from June to December assuming no sharp frosts. There are a wide range of colours but this is my favourite. These can be grown very easily from 6 inch cuttings in open ground from July -October. I'm told the variety is Hopelys Variegated,

If you bank up an inch or so of soil around the base of penstemmon they'll root into this very quickly and you can pull them off with root attached and you have 100% certainty of success. This method works very well with many perennial plants . eg coreopsis and rudbeckia.

Good tip, thanks.
I too have weakness for Penstemons, and this one is rather nice!
|My favourite has to be Huskers Red, which seems to be as tough as old boots!

Beautiful, delicate colour, I'll google it. Also thanks for the tip on rooting them I'll give it a try. I've bought some Pensham penstemon this year, they seem rather big and brash compared to my old ones:-)
