This variety doesn't grow as quickly as the orange/red African tulip tree...and it usually tops out at only 35 feet/ 11 meters tall.

Beautiful remind me of standard Roses here.

They are much taller now. It grows a little smaller than the taller orange-red African Tulip tree.

I think I prefer them this size.

Yes, it's manageable. African Tulips tree can grow very fast with lots of water.

I am suprised it survives with you having so many droughts there.

Some have really suffered in the horrible drought we just had. They get a lot of die-back from lack of water. It's native to the very tropical rainforest conditions of Congo, Africa. It's surprising it grows here at all.

Yes I would of thought thats tropical rain foorest are full of moisture.

Yes, there's lot of moisture. These trees have fared very well because there's a sprinkler-system for the grass watering them.

This area has about 12 African Tulip trees. Half Golden-yellow and other half the red-orange flowered trees.

Must be a wonderful sight to see lucky it has a watering system which they benefit from.

Yes, it's always good to have a watering system here. We have such a long dry season. Usually, it's 8 to 9 months of no rain.

I dont think I could live with not much rain no moister in the air.

We definitely have moisture in the air. We just don't get much rain. During monsoonal season (late June through mid-Sept) it gets very hot and humid. (unbearable many times).

You would think the air would be dry having no rain that has suprised me.
I can imagine it being so humid there its unbearable I know what its like here when its humid yours must be far worse.

During monsoonal season it can get extremely hot and humid (we've had heat indices of 132ºF or 56ºC) here. It's HORRIBLE heat! We usually have excessive heat warnings issued (this can happen a few times or several times throughout summer).

Monsoon means change in the winds...so the air flow is from the south-east, from Mexico and through the extremely hot deserts of Arizona and south-east California.

Wow that must horrible for those that have nt got air conditioning so as we get the cold you get the hot humid climate.

I ve learned some thing new I always thought monsoon meant rains not wind change. Do you get sand dust from the desert then?

Luckily, most people have ac. All new homes have to be build with Central Air Conditioners. It varies year-to-year;however, we always have a very long stretch of very hot weather here in inland San Diego.

Yes, most people use the term "monsoon" in an incorrect context. It's probably because most monsoonal climates it brings rains with the monsoonal flow. We sometimes get rain; however, the rain stays to the east of me. Generally, we just have the really hot, humid weather with some really beautiful thunderheads just to the east. I posted several pics on GoY of the monsoonal laden thunder storms. (I call them monsoonal flow clouds) We mostly get dust and sand from an extremely strong Santa Ana Wind event, which luckily doesn't happen too often.

That's good they have to build new homes with AC shame the heat lasts so long.

Yes I suppose they do use Monsoon incorrectly, I think they associate it with the rains in India.

I bet the monsoonal flow clouds look great. Some times we get sand from the Sahara desert you can see the dust covering our cars.

Inland San Diego is very hot, right along the coast it stays very comfortable all year (it's like perpetual spring).

Yes, the thunder storms over the mountains and deserts are very spectacular. I've posted many pics over the years on GoY.

We occasionally get sand from our deserts blowing to the coast. Luckily, the prevailing winds keep it out in the deserts, though. :>))
