It's one of the few American desert natives to bloom in the worst of the summer. Ours mostly got done about a month ago.

I like this cactus. I think this is the cactus which grows out in the mountains and desert in eastern San Diego County off interstate 8.

Smart man. I only go out to visit the desert in early spring. I almost never go out to the desert in summer. I can't tolerate the desert heat anymore. Actually, I barely can tolerate the inland San Diego heat. Although, this year we've had one of the coolest summers on record.
