Hardy Osteospermum

I don't seem to be able to keep my Osteospurnum through the winter, do you give yours any special treatment?

There are hardy and non hardy varieties Bell. Also I live in mid latitude UK so if you're further north than Peterborough that may be the problem.

Try covering the first couple of inches of shoots with something insulating like chipped bark or even soil to give the base some frost protection. The tops may still die but it may reshoot from underground.. Alternatively they do take easily from cuttings so you could over winter a few in a green house or possibly a cold indoor window sill( I've never tried the latter but it may be worth a try)

Also I have a very light well drained soil. Some plants hate to be in heavy wet soil in winter so that could be your problem?

I've just remembered that my Mum who lives in Bradford has no problem with over wintering them and it is quite a bit colder there than where I am.

Thanks so much for all that info, I will try again next year. I think perhaps the ones I bought were not the hardy type I thought they were.
