Myrtus communis

Myrtus communis (Myrtus communis (Common myrtle))

The most disappointing thing about the Eden Project was the difficulty in identifying the plants that I'm unfamiliar with - this is one of them. In the Mediterranean sphere.

You know it looks a little like a myrtle shrub growing wild in my back garden......will go have a look later and take a picture.

Cool!
This was growing in the Mediterranean sphere so that would make sense. It'd be really nice to be able to put a name to it - thanks!

ok, but you won't get a picture until tomorrow. I'm actually at work now, that's why I have so much time to spend on the pc.....it's not too busy at this time.

Really beautiful flower, Meanie :-)

What work do you do, Alexandramou.... must be good if you can come on here whilst you do it ;-)))

Well, I own a jewellery shop Louise1. Sit at a desk when people are not shopping and this is the time when it's really not busy. I need a couple of hours to just sit and enjoy some pictures of lovely plant.

Sounds perfect :-))
Don't forget to show us your own garden :-)

It would be if the economy was better. My back garden Louise1 is not ready for pictures...believe me.

Oh, really, what a pity - show us anyway ;-)
Sorry about the slowness of trade though, doesn't help the bank balance does it :-(

Meanie, went to have a look at my myrtle shrub....no flowers but I took a picture of the leaves. Will post picture tomorrow.

Meanie:

It's definitely Myrtus communis. I've posted it in the past...it grows wild here.

It seems to grow well outside there too?

Delonix - this was in the Mediterranean sphere at the Eden project.

Meanie:

Does Myrtus communis grow outside in the ground where you live?

13 Sep, 2010

Checked out a couple of UK suppliers who think that it's hardy down to minus five deg.c. So might be worth a go in Sue's garden, which is more sheltered than mine.

Meanie:

Good luck! : > )
