Erythrina x bidwillii - Bidwell's Coral Tree (Erythrina x bidwillii - Bidwell's Coral Tree)

There's many species of Erythrina growing at the San Diego Zoo. Soon many will be blooming. This is a close up of Bidwell's Coral tree flowering. Photo taken on Sept. 9, 2010.

Lovely!
I think that I'll have to wait another year for my Crista Galli to bloom.

Meanie:

Erythrina crista-gallii does bloom young. Next year it should bloom for you.

The huge Erythrina crista-gallii around the corner from me was butchered a couple of weeks ago...it should be against the law what the people did to their tree. It looks absolutely horrible! It was butchered back in early March and grew around 20 feet/ 6 meters in all directions (it's an extremely fast growing tree because it's old and established)

Animals!!
Even though mine hasn't flowered I'm still pleased with it as it has come back well from the red spider mite attack and treatment.

Meanie:

Those darned spider mites!!! Spider mites are a huge problem here all year...they love to damage my palm fronds.

They were a pain early summer, but since I found and treated them I've been meticulous about regular misting to keep the humidity up.

Meanie:

Spider mites love dry conditions...I need to use systemic pesticide.
