I know what you mean. Our ocean temps here in San Diego have been well below normal this year.

The warmest ocean temperature recorded off San Diego was in 2006 (and a few other El Nino years) when it got up to 83 degrees F/ 28 degrees C., however, in summer it's typically between 72 - 78F or 22 - 26C...although some of the shallower coves may have warmer waters.

I think the average temp of the North Sea is about 4degrees ..Only 80 or so lower ..Yoiks !!

That's a tradition here around the U.S. also. It's done here in San Diego, but the water isn't to difficult to take...compared to the Northeast and Northwest Coasts.

I usually won't go into the ocean until the water temps reaches at least 74F/ 23C and that's still pretty cold for me.
