Parnassia palustris: Marsh Grass-of-Parnassus

Parnassia palustris: Marsh Grass-of-Parnassus (Parnassia palustris (Grass of Parnassus))

Hadn't seen this before, growing along a stream in our little town called Fox. I of course took every seed head that looked dry and ready to spread here maybe down by the frog pond.....lol. Once I know what I'm spreading anyway.

Thank you. I was thinking anemone too Bjs. But there was almost no foliage, just a few rounded leaves, one at the base and one along the stem. Also the seed heads were smooth and podlike. Neither seemed much like anemone, but it still could be. I'll continue looking in to it. I wouldn't want to spread an invasive, the spot they were in is pretty heavily trafficked, might have been brought in.

Thank you BB. I agree. This drift drew me in immediately. They have seed like a pansy, so I've got plenty to try out. :-)

Intrigued by white flowers Gt always a favourite in our very shady garden ..the wonders of the internet - searched under wild white Alaskan flowers scrolled images and came across a plant called Bog Star ( Parnassia palustris) not nearly glamorous enough name but certainly a star..loves the conditions you describe.

It has the 5 petals these appear in images to be grey veined and a guy even posted images taken of them growing along the Seward highway.Could it be ..?

The internet is a wonder. And shows just how lazy I was about looking it up......lol! It does look like the exact plant though the Seward highway is 300 miles away. I can't think of a wet area to plant them in though, other than down by the pond. I suppose with all that seed I can try it more than one spot. Thanks for finding that for me BB. :-)

They are! Caught my eye at once. I'm so happy to have collected so much seed. I can't wait to get them started and establish a patch here at home.
