a buko is a young coconut, still soft to chew, an ingredient to some desserts, like buko salad and, buko pie.

Oh, I see.....that's interesting as I've never known coconuts other than the very ripe ones we see in the shops here....all brown with grainy strands on the shell. yes it's a filipino language, sarap means delicious. buko salad is the easiest recipe, panlasang pinoy means taste for filipinos, noche-buena it's a spanish words use by filipinos means christmas eve, where family gather to dine at midnight, mostly we prepare fruits and fruit salad, buko as an extender.

whistonlass, next you see a brown coconut buy them, put in a pot then you can have a coconut palm in a year, so plant as much as you can cause it is rare.

I didn't realize brown coconuts were rare. I saw them in Canada in supermarkets quite often....not sure if I've ever seen any in the UK...will keep looking. I also didn't realize you could grow a coconut by putting one in a pot of soil....is that really all the preparation needed?...no cutting?

if the coconut husk is intact then it's ready to be planted, coconut palm in pots are rare,
