Bismarckia nobilis - Bismarck Palm and Ravenala madagascariensis - Traveller's Palm

Bismarckia nobilis - Bismarck Palm and Ravenala madagascariensis - Traveller's Palm (Bismarckia nobilis - Bismarck Palm and Ravenala madagascariensis - Traveller's Palm)

These trees were in dire need of water...as the soil looked like compacted concrete. It's amazing they're still alive. Photo taken Sept. 29, 2010 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

Do you need some water we've had plenty in the last couple of weeks

Mushybanna:

They're located next to the Museum of Photographic Arts building in Balboa Park.

You're so lucky you've had lots of rain! ... and no drought like here.

Yes, we're in need of water...everything is dry as a bone. We've been getting the monsoonal flow for the last 3 days...late last night lots of lightning and some thunder this morning...but no badly needed rain!

Sandra:

Just after I wrote my last comment it started raining pretty heavily with thunder and lots of lightning. It's still not enough rain though...it never is.

It has been very hot and now very humid for the last 7 days.

Fairly drought tolerant plants, as I can testify. They need to be in their native Madagascar!

Tugbrethil:

Yes, Bismarckia is very drought tolerant. Ravenala looks better and grows much faster with a lot more water.
