This very large shrub native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and China grows to 20 feet/ 6 meters tall. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA on Sept. 29, 2010.

It's a very common plant in the tropics...many times naturalizing and becoming very weedy.

I'm surprised it doesn't grow in Phoenix...as it tolerates very high temps. I do know it's quite cold sensitive though. From what I've read...it tolerates slightly above freezing temps for a very short period of time without much damage.

Delonix: I've never seen one here, but maybe it's something a grower should look into. There are a lot of very frost tender plants grown here just because they enjoy heat!

Yes, I've read that Mussaenda will grow in Phoenix...and they're very tropical. It was a huge surprise because it likes a lot of humidity.
