Oliveoil, I always only ever lift the ones i really love.....I couldnt lift them all which adds up to about 40....I store them in my shed which houses the boiler...so frost free in there...I label each one and store them in boxes....they dont really take up much room...The ones in the ground will survive with a mulch as long as we dont have a winter like last year....Why dont you try a few and run them through your border, plant them deeply and they could last for years.....:>)

Think I will give it a go again next year, have done that previous years, one time they survived for about two years and then we got a bad winter and off they went. Being heavy clay doesn't help either. Thanks for that wish I had some where heated then we could store tubers. Not to worry they are not that expensive , experiment experiment, trouble is I hate losing plants.

Me too Oliveoil...Some of mine, in fact quite a few are growing in pots (the younger tubers) and i use them as gap fillers...In the autumn i put them in the shed, cut them back and leave them in their pots....(dry)...good luck

Motinot the dahlias are amazing, Nali is gorgeous. How many dahlias do you have and do you leave them in the ground or lift them each autumn. I love dahlias but want them in the garden not having to lift them, no where to store them. Tried lifting them and storing them but they died off. Have tried them in tubs this year but they are not as successful as they would be in the garden.
Think they would be a great addition to the hot border especially now as everything seems to have gone to sleep, apart from some rudbekias and anemones.
