I'm always amazed they even grow here...being native to the Congo region of Africa.

I agree. : > ) We're so lucky here...this and the red/orange African Tulip tree have become very popular in the last 20 years or so. It's even planted along some of our freeways here in San Diego.

There only the species -- which is red/ orange and then the golden/yellow variety 'aurea' .
