Meanie:

Great photo! I wish I had your camera and photographing skills! The start of the orchid blooming season in San Diego has just started also. Although, I never seem to be able to get good photos of orchids.

Thanks Delonix - it's just a matter of twiddling with functions until you get it right. It still not second nature, although it is becoming more intuitive. I still bin a lot, but I refuse to photoshop stuff!

Meanie:

I think you have the advantage. I'm usually taking pics of orchids on or under large Banyan trees or in the Botanical Building (which is a big lath-house) the light is really bad because the light filters through the laths making a lot of shadowing. Even with my macro on and flash set the pics still come out lousy! I'll post of few of the lousy pics I took a couple of weeks ago.

I know that feeling from my visits to the botanic gardens!
Look forward to them.
What camera do you have?

Meanie:

I have a Nikon CoolPix 100. It's not a DLSR...that will be my next camera.

Another tip that is good in autofocus mode is to carry a LED torch. Then when using the flash aim the torch at the target at a 60/90deg angle to the camera . This helps with shadows too!
I use one of these.......

It's a good all round torch.

Meanie:

Thanks! That's a great tip which I though about for a long time...I'm too lazy though. I absolutely love to just point and shoot.

Thanks again for the info! : >)
