More orchids...not sure of the name though. Photo taken Sept. 29, 2010 in Botanical Building in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

Meanie:
Thanks! Next time I go to Balboa Park I'll see if it has a name tag.
See what I mean though...the pics are not as clear as yours.
Although, when I was here last I noticed some of the laths are starting to detach from the top of this huge structure. Maybe that's why there's a little more light in the Botanical Building now.

The shadows can be a pain! Thats why I always grab a guide when I go in - it can be used to put the point of interest fully in the shade if in autofocus mode.

Meanie:
Yes, the shadows are really difficult to deal with...supposedly in some cases you can use a flash...however, in my case it never seems to compensate. The auto-focus mode on my camera doesn't work either.
I think it's time for me to taken another digital camera class.

Ah, so my tips about the guide and the torch are pretty useless then!

I find that magentas, cerise..the very bright pinks ..are as hard to photograph perfectly as are the whites... I started using a light coloured or white umbrella as an all purpose light filter... it helps.

Lori:
Sometimes the white balance has to be re-set on these digital cameras.

hmmm... I've noticed a change in mine lately...all my pics need adjustment. I'm afraid I'm a technodunce...will have to get out the instruction manual again...I keep hoping Santa Claus will take the hints.... a nice new Canon DSLR.

Lori:
Unfortunately, the old days of low-tech gadgets are gone!
The new DSLR are even more technically advanced...my friend just got a new DSLR integrated with movie camera...the instruction book is as large as the telephone book. lol! :>)
It's crazy!

I'll vouch for that! I'm still learning about mine months later!

Uh-Oh...I may be in trouble.

Meanie:
I read most of the book on my camera when I got it last Christmas...however, retaining all the information is another issue.

You're not the only one. LOL! :>)

It's getting better. But still I look at the photos when I put them on the computer & think "why didn't I tweak so and so"!
18 Oct, 2010
Bless the computer! I'm the same, Meanie...everything is tweakable these days. I have a computer program from the maker of my camera that is excellent. it even helps me if I don't focus properly...with my aging eyesight that is a real plus! All hail digital photography!

I'm a little old school Lori and think that the tweaking should happen in the camera. I don't mind tweaking the exposure and cropping though!
18 Oct, 2010
Wow! You both do a lot to your photos! I just post as I take my pics...I never edit them, that's probably why they look so bad sometimes. LOL! :>)

Exposure and crop is the limit for me!
To be truthful, I have tried tweaking colours, touching up etc and I can't do it!! It always looks worse.
I'm not sure if this will work for you, it's the link to my Flickr favourites..........

A number of these have had "work" done after.

hmmm... seems there's already a "purist" ethic developing with regard to digital photos. I don't think there's anything wrong with adjusting the light balance or contrast in my digital pics to bring out the details or improve visibility of same. As I get older and my eyesight changes I've had to argue with the camera a few times...usually means a re-read of the manual, and a little tweak for sharper focus lol... I have some photos on flickr too...thanks for reminding me ..I haven't been in there to see if there were comments in over a year!! Will take a look too, Meanie. If that's ok?
19 Oct, 2010
I don't have a problem with that either, although I tend to find that contrast brings out shortcomings in other areas. I mostly use the manual mode on my camera now as I learn more about it though, so it's less of an issue.
Please feel free Lori to explore my favourites, my photos etc on flickr. It's an open resource!
