I have been flat out editing my holiday pictures so havn't had much time to catch up on GOY. However I did find this picture and just have to comment on it.
I see a Sandra up in the right hand corner. The Sandra was my first Strep plant and this year I just had to put many of the surplus Sandras out into the garden where they bloomed for months, They are now packed away in the greenhouse with a thermostatic heater that keeps the temperature down to just below 10c.
Your blue flower looks just like one of my crosses, does yours have a name. Don't know the other plants name.
Thanks for posting this picture.

Hi Tanny, I'm sorry, but the one you think is Sandra was given to me as Stella a few years ago, the blue one is Bethan, the other is Silvia. I don't have a heated greenhouse so mine are all indoors now, along with loads of baby streps.

Hello again, sorry for being so negligent with visiting GOY, hopefully I will be more frequent in the future.
I havn't seen a Stella before but in the Dibleys book the colour is a brighter red than yours, your Stella is the same colour as my Sandra, mind you the picture of Sandra in the book is not the same as my plant.
Last year I over-did my cross pollinating and am now inundated with all the seeds sprouting, too many to count but possibly well over two thousand. The greenhouse is chocker-block with plants from the seedlings I grew last year. I guess this hobby can be rather intoxicating or should I say overwhelming. I hope the weather is mild this year because I will be putting a load of my Streptocarpus outside under the trees.
Good luck with your Strep family.
Tanny.

Hi Tanny, nice to hear from you again. It does get confusing when flowers are so alike doesn't it. It could well be Sandra, but as I said before was given to me as Stella. I haven't had a lot of luck propogating that one this year, but maybe if I am lucky I could send you one to compare. I don't do the cross pollenating, I feel I have enough to contend with by just doing leaf cuttings.
You certainly have a lot of babies there, but I dont have a heated greenhouse like you, and probably its a good job that I haven't as I would be tempted to do a lot more. It gets very addictive. Some of my leaves this last lot, just havent produced for me, Bethan being one and this is usually an easy one for me. I could probably let you have a Silvia if you would like one in a few weeks.
I have never put them out in the summer, but perhaps I will try it this year if the weather is good. Do you plant them out or leave them in their pots?
Look forward to your next post. Sylvia
