Syzygium paniculatum - Australian Brush Cherry

I allowed the Australian Brush Cherry to re-grow last fall since it was cut down before I move in 7 years ago. It is now taller than the eve of the house and fruiting. This tree/shrub is one of the most widely grown tree in California. Old specimens in California are known to be almost 100 feet/ 31 meters tall. This is as tall as they grow in their native eastern Australian habitat. Photo taken Oct. 25, 2010.

We can only just barely grow cherries (only low-chill varieties) in San Diego. Most varieties are high-chill requiring too many hours of chilling...which our climate doesn't provide.
We however, can grow the Capulin Cherry or Tropical Cherry (Prunus salicifolia). It's a real cherry...we can get almost 3 crops a year here. :>)
