Trevesia sundaica - Snowflake Tree or Snowflake Aralia

This Java, Sumatra native grows as an understory tree. The leaves resemble snowflakes, hence the common name. Photo taken at the San Diego Zoo on Oct. 27, 2010.

Hopefully your friend hasn't been here in the last 3 weeks...the weather has been very rainy and cool for October. Typically we receive no rain in October and it's warm to hot and very dry...like how it was today (Oct. 27, 2010).

Yes, this species has a very beautiful, shiny leaf! It's not as common as T. palmata, though. It's also very tropical.

lovely plant Delonix. you can see where it gets its name...a friend of mine has been in san diego taking sports action photos...as well as some pics of the zoo. he was confused as to how i knew a little about the zoo, parks and the tall palm trees there....:-)
