A fine specimen Andrew: one of my top ten plants, I see them growing so well in Cornwall. I have no success here in London, especially after the last two winters.

Richard - I think this is one of those plants that gets hardier as it gets older. I leave the top growth on over winter and usually mulch the roots for added protection but ran out of mulching material last winter. It's planted on the side of my garden with heavy clay soil in a sheltered, north-facing spot (which is not what the books tell you to give it!)
